You think you have a robust idea, but where goes the reviews?

“In computer security, a sandbox is a security mechanism for safely running programs. It is often used to execute untested code, or programs from unverified third-parties, suppliers and untrusted users.”
Jian told me after his meeting with one of our client, who is looking for volunteers to develop a website for the coming Terry Fox Run KL 2007 (http://www.terryfoxrunkl.org). At first, this really sounds like ‘FireFox’ to me until I googled and found out more about this meaningful charity project.
This is always one of my dream where each of us go with a notebook, sitting together and get the website up and running in a day. The idea strikes me… Instead of having a teh tarik meet-up for all the members, why not we make it a more meaningful one by creating a website for this charity event during one of the weekend.
This can be really a fun project. Imagine we have photographer busy taking pictures, copywriter working on the content, while designer busy with the touching up of images. Others, working on the coding, layout, etc. It does not stop here, we then promote this event to more people via Blogs, forum, banner exchange, press release and many more.
‘The Run is named after Terry Fox, the young man who inspired these events.’
They looking to revamp it, previously it was done by http://www.designlah.com/, totally voluntery, but the website has certain guidelines from Canada. It looks simple and direct, static.. believe it would be good like as you said, get it sorted out in a workshop style with WDA.
This is the person that i’ve spoke to, Mr. Yee Ming, he’s a lawyer but looks more passionate in this run than his job. haha.. 017-3623459
Interesting one, meaningful to kick start WDA with this..
Pin, sounds like an idea. I should however let you know some of the limitations we operate under. The Terry Fox Foundation sets the rules of what we can and cannot do. What we can do is use the official image from the Foundation in Canada (see http://www.terryfoxrun.org). We cannot use other images (something which we did last year, and I got my knuckles rapped for it).
Promotion of the event via blogs, online forums, banner exchange, press releases, etc. are all things which we did successfully last year. Possibly the most famous blogger who picked up the Terry Fox Run in KL was Jeff Ooi. We had banners up on a number of sites, most notably Kakiseni. And as you can see from our website, we got quite a lot of press last year – 18 separate reports in newspapers in 4 languages. All things we want to repeat this year.

Great to see the discussion here, it keeps all our members updated at the same time. It would be great if you can send us the Guidelines. We can take a look and suggest the way to go for this year event. We can also use analytics tool to keep track number of visitors to this website, and to measure its conversion for successful online sign up.
The last year press release is very impressive!
Another sandbox project, Build-Your-Website Workshop
Many of our WDA members do not have their own website for many reasons. They may not have time to build one, or simply because it does not worth the time to setup one. Those with a website may not have a very high PageRank (You need to install Google Toolbar to see your PR). Overall, not much enquiries are generated from search engines.
As one of the WDA objective, we hope you can benefit from your website. We plan to launch a 3-months workshop for 3 WDA members (Sorry, we hope to have more, but with limited resources we can have 3 for now). We will provide you a one year free web hosting, ready with a website framework that save your time to build from scratch. We will share with you how to improve your website ranking with keywords related to your skillset. It has a lot to do with marketing, content, plugins, etc… We will keep you busy with a lot of sharing until you see the results :)
At the end of day (3 month at least, that is why we need to start fast), we hope the three WDA members will have a high PR website and start receiving enquiries for your solution.
Interested, please email to me at pin@1.com.my
Will be meeting up with YeeMing tomorrow (Thursday) 11am in Mid Valley to discuss about the voluntary project, Terry Fox Run. Let me know if any of you would like to join our discussion as well.

Guess I am abusing this Sandbox now, too many posts from me!
I just got 4,000 copies of postcard from Felix of ACME Creative Concept, one of our WDA members. It takes only 4 days to deliver, and the printout is absolutely impressive!
P/s, Felix, where is your picture? Everyone is looking for it now in the Members page… :)
haha…welcome :)
Printing is same every where. This is your hard work of your designer to get a such printout.
Picture? how i going to put that?
Just email your picture to me, and I will include it :)
